LYNN, Mass. A Massachusetts (from Examiner.com) city has rescinded school department layoffs after its teachers union voted to work one day without pay.
Officials in Lynn said administrators and other non-union employees followed the lead of the teachers by also agreeing to an unpaid work day. As a result, the department canceled about 120 layoffs that had been scheduled to take effect on March 16.
Schools in the North Shore city originally faced a $1 million deficit in the current fiscal year. Administrators were able to cut the gap in half through non-salary reductions.
From HR Clean Up: This seems to be the antisis of the "Rollback" from yesterday. Here is a group of people, banding together, to make things work in tough times. And the winners? Our children. Bottom line...the kids win.
