On Friday, my partner found out his friend Marie's husband passed away. And he found out on Facebook. Yep, Nick's friend Grace sent him a message, via Facebook, about Marie's husband.
Here's the question...would email have been better? More personal? I'm thinking that in 1994 we would have been questioning the decorum of sending the message via email. But, now, 15 years later, it almost seems personal. I'll bet the same thing was true when people started calling insead of writing. "Can you believe he didn't bother to write? "
Weird, isn't it? How time changes perceptions and expectations about what is o.k. and what isn't o.k. As we enter this world of converging media, it will become more and more normal to do more and more communication on tools like Facebook.
Maybe I'm old school but sometimes I think a phone call is still the best way to give bad news.
Miss Bender agrees that only GOOD news should come from Facebook, esp if from a 3rd party.
